Two banned from roads and fined for drink-driving
Two drink-drivers stopped by police in Hamilton have been banned from the roads for 18 months.
Justin Frank, 39, and Saminda Karangoda, 48, admitted drink-driving when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that officers doing sobriety checks on Queen Street stopped Karangoda, from Southampton, on May 27.
They noticed he was unsteady on his feet and smelt alcohol on his breath.
Karangoda was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed 158 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
The court then heard that on June 16 officers were stopped at a traffic light on Front Street when Frank, from Smith’s, overtook them and ran the light.
Police followed and stopped him and smelt alcohol on his breath.
Frank was taken to Hamilton Police Station and ordered to take a breath test, which showed 214 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.
In addition to being banned, both men were fined $1,500.
