Man to ‘pay off’ fines with 260+ hours of community service

A man will pay off thousands of dollars in motoring fines by doing community service.

Kenyade McQueen, 20, was fined almost $2,000 for riding an unlicensed and uninsured motorcycle when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.

However, the court learnt that McQueen, from Hamilton Parish, already owed more than $3,000 from previous fines.

During that appearance, senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson asked court staff to write a social inquiry report for McQueen to see if he could pay some of the fines through community service, but ordered he pay some of the outstanding amount that day.

After reading the report yesterday, magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered McQueen to complete 263½ hours of community service, to work off the rest of his fines.

Mr Chin adjourned the case to August 30 to review McQueen’s progress on completing the hours.
