Dill trial begins with prosecution describing fatal stabbing
Two men set upon a 22-year-old and fatally stabbed him in a 2020 attack, the Supreme Court heard as a murder trial began.
Davin Dill, 24, has denied charges that he murdered Joshua Rowse and that he possessed a bladed article, specifically a knife, in a public place in an incident on June 14, 2020
Carrington Mahoney, for the Crown, told the jury that during the early evening, Mr Rowse and some friends had gone to the Rubis petrol station on South Road in Warwick.
“He was standing on the outside of the door with a friend when suddenly a car owned by the defendant drove up and the defendant and another person came out of the car, each armed with a knife,” he said.
“They proceeded to chase Mr Rowse, who ran. He ran in the direction of South Road towards where the old gas station was.
“It is our case the two men, the defendant and the other person, attacked Mr Rowse and inflicted several stab wounds.”
Mr Mahoney said the car the attackers arrived in then drove alongside the scene of the attack and the two men got in before the vehicle left the area.
Mr Rowse later succumbed to his injuries.
The court heard that as part of the investigation police collected CCTV footage from a series of cameras at the gas station.
The jury was also shown photographs of the crime scene taken on the evening of the fatal stabbing.
The photographs showed bloodstained towels near the station’s exit ramp and a trail of blood along the nearby sidewalk.
More of what appeared to be blood was found on a grassy area west of the station, along with the broken tip of a serrated knife.
The trial continues.
