Taxi driver fined $1,000 for dangerous driving

A taxi driver who almost caused a collision in Devonshire was fined $1,000 in Magistrates’ Court.

Shelton Harris, 61, from Pembroke, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that Harris was driving east on Palmetto Road on April 6, when he overtook vehicles in front of him, causing traffic in the westbound lane to take evasive action.

Police stopped and charged Harris with the offence shortly after the incident.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson disqualified Harris from driving all vehicles except his truck for six months and ordered him to pay the fine before the end of the day.
