Motorist caught drink-driving three times banned from roads

A motorist was arrested for drink-driving on three occasions within the past 14 months, Magistrates’ Court heard.

Debre Trott, 31, from Pembroke, admitted the offences when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that officers attended the scene of a collision on Cedar Avenue, which involved a bike and car in July 2022.

Trott, the rider of the bike, admitted to colliding with the car and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident.

He provided police with samples of blood for analysis while at the hospital. They showed 210 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of Trott’s blood.

The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

The court then heard that when officers conducting sobriety checks stopped Trott on King Street on February 25 this year, they noticed his eyes were red and smelt alcohol on his breath.

Trott was taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed more than 84 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood.

Less than one month later, the court was told, police saw Trott driving recklessly on Court Street and stopped him.

He admitted to drinking before getting on his bike and a breath test revealed 86 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered Trott to participate in DUI Court and released him on $5,000 bail until that time.

She also ordered that social inquiry and drug-use reports be written for Trott and disqualified him from driving all vehicles until further notice.
