Man, 29, sentenced to probation for slapping woman

A man who slapped a woman across the face has been ordered to complete two years’ probation.

Sadike Lee, 29, admitted causing the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, bodily harm during the assault when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in August.

The court heard that Lee, from Devonshire, hit the woman during an argument on August 13.

The woman then called police, who arrested Lee shortly after the incident.

At Lee’s sentencing yesterday, prosecutor Adley Duncan told the court that the woman required counselling as a result of the assault.

However, Mr Duncan also highlighted Lee’s early guilty plea and remorse for his actions and requested he be sentenced to probation or a conditional discharge.

Marc Daniels, Lee’s lawyer, agreed with Mr Duncan’s suggestions.

In addition to the probation, magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered Lee not contact the woman further.
