Man jailed for 30 days after hit-and-run
A motorist who fled the scene of a collision he caused has been jailed for 30 days.
Shane Todd, 38, admitted driving without due care and attention when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court, after initially denying the offence.
The court heard that Todd, from Southampton, collided with a bike while driving on Middle Road, Devonshire, in January 2021.
Police stopped and questioned Todd in connection with another matter shortly after he left the scene and discovered that the car was unlicensed and uninsured.
Todd admitted driving the unlicensed and uninsured vehicle at an earlier court appearance.
The victim, whose bike was damaged after the collision, suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.
Magistrate Craig Attridge sentenced Todd to 30 days in prison for the offence.
