Man admits to puncturing car tyres with ice pick

A man who punctured another man’s car tyres has been ordered to participate in a mental-health court treatment programme.

Takai Muhammad, 43, admitted damaging the tyres when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Grant Smith saw that three of his car tyres were flat on September 26.

Mr Smith believed that Muhammad damaged the tyres and reported the incident to police. The two had spoken a day earlier.

When they questioned him, Muhammad, from Smith’s, said that he punctured the tyres with an ice pick.

Magistrate Tyrone Chin ordered social inquiry and mental-health reports be written for Muhammad.

He also ordered that Muhammad participate in at least three mental-health court sessions starting on February 1 and released him on $500 bail until that time.
