Crown Counsel charged in Magistrates’ Court
A lawyer has been charged with having care and control of a car while impaired by alcohol.
Paul Wilson, 40, was also charged with having control of the same vehicle while over the legal blood-alcohol limit, obstructing police and attempting to pervert the course of justice by “advising and reminding police officers” of his position as a Crown Counsel.
Mr Wilson, from Hamilton Parish, denied the offences, which allegedly occurred on December 2, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
According to the Bermuda Bar Association’s website, Mr Wilson was working for the Department of Public Prosecutions as of February 1.
Cindy Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, said: “Mr Wilson is entitled to the same due process as every defendant. However, in the interests of justice, we have instructed external counsel to prosecute, and Mr Wilson has been reassigned to another department until the final adjudication of his matter.”
Mr Wilson was also fined $375 for having unpaid parking tickets and given until February 29 to pay.
Magistrate Craig Attridge adjourned the case until Monday and released Mr Wilson on $2,500 bail.
