Man intrudes on woman’s privacy in supermarket
A man who appeared to be taking pictures of female shoppers in a supermarket has been convicted of intruding on a woman’s privacy.
Ryan Reid, 30, admitted the offence, which occurred at The MarketPlace on Church Street, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last week.
The court heard that the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, contacted the Corporation of Hamilton after seeing Reid, from Pembroke, point his phone in her direction, as well as towards other women at the store, on June 9.
During a meeting with the woman and city staff, Reid admitted the offence and claimed to have a “problem with pornography”.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered social inquiry and mental health reports be written for Reid and adjourned the case to April 11 for sentencing.
Reid was released on $5,000 bail until that time and ordered not to contact the woman.
