Man denies causing death by impaired driving
A Pembroke man yesterday denied a series of charges related to the Christmas Day traffic collision that cost a 26-year-old his life.
Treadwell Smith, 37, pleaded not guilty in the Supreme Court to five charges related to the 2021 death of Dennis Saunders.
Mr Smith denied causing Mr Saunders death by driving on Palmetto Road in Devonshire while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
He also denied causing the death of Mr Saunders by driving over the legal blood-alcohol limit, causing the death by driving with a dangerous drug in his system and causing the death by driving without due care and attention.
Mr Smith, who was represented in court by Charles Richardson, also denied a charge of causing death by driving a car while uninsured.
Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe released Mr Smith on bail until May 1, when the matter is set to be mentioned in the Supreme Court as part of the monthly arraignments session.
