Man pleads guilty to dog-related offences
A man whose pitbull attacked another dog in Warwick will be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court next month.
Philip Richardson, 46, pleaded guilty to keeping three pitbull-type dogs at his Warwick home without written permission and to the animals being unlicensed.
The court heard that Elizabeth Stone and her dog, Luna, walked past Richardson and Henny, one of the animals, on the Railway Trail on March 4, 2023.
Richardson lost control of Henny, who attacked and injured Luna. It cost more than $1,400 to treat the injuries the dog sustained during the attack.
After the incident, police and animal control attended Richardson’s property in Smiths Avenue, where they found the three unlicensed dogs.
Richardson called the event a “terrible ordeal” during yesterday’s court appearance but noted that Henny had been in the government kennel since the incident and that his dogs were now licensed.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to April 12 for sentencing and released Richardson on $5,000 bail until that time.
