A man who assaulted a police officer will be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court next month.

Chinua Durham, 45, admitted assaulting the officer and damaging a camera at the Hamilton Police Station when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that police took Durham, from Pembroke, to the station in connection with an unrelated matter on Tuesday and placed him in a secure cell after he bit the officer’s finger.

Durham then spread faeces onto the cell’s security camera, which was destroyed as a result.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos ordered social inquiry and drug use reports to be written for Durham and adjourned the case to June 20 for sentencing. Durham was released on $500 bail until that time.
