Suspended sentence for man who assaulted woman

A man who assaulted a woman was given a suspended prison sentence in Magistrates’ Court.

John Johnson, 30, admitted causing bodily harm to the woman when he appeared in court on an earlier date.

The court heard that Johnson, from Sandys, visited the woman’s home and placed his hands around her neck in December 2022.

Johnson called the incident an “unfortunate matter” when he reappeared for sentencing on Thursday.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos sentenced Johnson to 12 months behind bars, suspended for that same period, and ordered him to complete one year’s probation.
