Brazil national charged with stealing from bank

A Brazilian national was accused of stealing money from HSBC Bermuda.

Luca Gabriel Bessa Banderia, 21, was also charged with attempting to steal funds from the bank and having $66,080 in cash, said to be criminal property, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Mr Banderia, who lives in Ceará, was further charged with having card readers “specifically designed or adapted for the making of false credit and or debit cards” and placing orders with Sargasso and Pronto services with cards that he was not authorised to use.

All alleged offences occurred between June 22 and July 10.

Mr Banderia was not required to enter pleas as the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to the September arraignment session and remanded Mr Banderia in custody until that time.
