A Crown counsel constantly reminded police officers of his professional position while being arrested, Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday.

Paul Wilson, 40, denies attempting to pervert the course of justice by advising officers of his position.

Mr Wilson, from Hamilton Parish, has also denied having care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and while over the legal blood-alcohol limit, and obstructing police.

Pc Christopher DeSilva told the court that he had found Mr Wilson asleep in a car near the junction of Watlington Road West and Brighton Hill last December 2.

The officer told magistrate Craig Attridge that the vehicle was in drive and its engine and headlights were on when he approached.

He said that he woke Mr Wilson, who smelt of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.

Mr Wilson showed him and another officer his Crown counsel business card before being arrested.

Footage captured on Pc DeSilva’s body camera showed Mr Wilson asking the officer if he was proud of himself and if “this is how you treat Crown counsel”. He added that he would “find out who put you guys up to this”.

Pc DeSilva said he felt threatened that Mr Wilson would use his position to make his job as a police officer more difficult.

Mr Attridge adjourned the case until September 23 and extended Mr Wilson’s $1,500 bail until that time. The trial continues.
