Senior admits 2022 drink-driving offence

A Sandys senior has admitted injuring another man while driving impaired.

Henry Darrell, 73, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court yesterday to a charge that he caused grievous bodily harm to Ronald Tankard by driving a car on the Railway Trail in Sandys while his ability to do so was impaired.

The incident was said to have taken place on May 3, 2022.

Darrell was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm by driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit in connection with the same incident, but he pleaded not guilty to that charge and the Crown elected not to proceed with that count.

The court heard that a psychiatric report has already been completed.

However, the Crown sought time to obtain a victim impact statement prior to sentencing.

Chief Justice Larry Mussenden adjourned the matter until September 3, when a sentencing date will be set.

Darrell was released on bail until that date.
