Man who threatened police officer banned from roads
A drink-driver who threatened a police officer during filming for the television series Policing Paradisehas been banned from driving for 18 months.
Everton Lewis, 44, admitted threatening the officer and refusing to take a breath test when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that police saw Lewis in a parked car in the Horseshoe Bay parking lot on August 1.
Officers smelt alcohol on Lewis’s breath, heard that his speech was slurred and told him to get out of the driver’s seat.
Lewis, from Warwick, initially followed the order but eventually got back into the driver’s seat and was taken to Hamilton Police Station.
While on the way to the station, Lewis threatened one officer and told them he would be “coming for all your families”. He later refused to take a breath test.
Lewis called the incident an “overwhelming situation”, which he said was filmed for the television series Policing Paradise.
He told the court that he had repeatedly asked the officers to stop filming.
In addition to being banned, Lewis was fined $1,500 for refusing the test and $400 for threatening police.
