Drunk man bites police officer’s finger
A drunk man who bit a police officer’s finger and later smeared faeces over a security camera in a cell has been ordered to take part in an alcohol court treatment programme.
Chinua Durham, 46, admitted assaulting the officer and damaging police station property when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in May.
He reappeared in court yesterday for sentencing.
The court heard that Durham, from Pembroke, was placed into a secure cell at the Hamilton Police Station after he bit an officer’s finger.
He then spread faeces on to the cell’s security camera, which was destroyed as a result.
Court reports showed that alcohol played a factor in the offence.
Acting magistrate Cristen Seuss ordered that Durham take part in DUI Court beginning on August 20 and extended his bail until that time.
