Visitor fined for importing cocaine

A visitor who had cocaine in his luggage was fined in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Malcolm Lamphere, 28, admitted having the drug and importing it into Bermuda when he appeared in court.

The court heard that 0.1 grams of cocaine was found in Lamphere’s luggage at LF Wade International Airport when he arrived on the island on Saturday.

Lamphere, who lives in Florida, told police he did not know he had the drug, which he had not used for two years, in his bag.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos fined Lamphere $1,000 for the offences.
