Man boarded bus with meat cleaver

A man who hid a meat cleaver in his trousers and boarded a bus will be sentenced in November.

Mikhail Butterfield, 34, admitted having the weapon in public when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Butterfield, from Pembroke, boarded a public bus with the cleaver, which had a blade longer than three inches, last March.

Police were informed of the offence and arrested Butterfield when he got off the bus near Heron Bay in Southampton.

Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered that reports be written for Butterfield, adjourned the case to November 4 for sentencing and extended his bail until that time.
