Drink-driver banned from roads

A man who crashed his bike in Paget has been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Che Durham, 26, admitted drink-driving when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Durham, from Southampton, told police at the scene of the crash, which happened near White Sands Road and South Road on August 4, that he lost focus of the road, but denied drinking alcohol before getting on his bike, the court heard.

Officers smelt alcohol on Durham’s breath and took him to the Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed between 247 and 249.9 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Durham was fined $1,500 for the offence in addition to being banned.
