Six charged with drug importation

Six people are accused of conspiring to import cannabis into Bermuda more than two years ago.

Jahkeya Spenser and Teko Bean, both 34, Gavin O’Connor, 55, Jahdae Wade, 24, and 33-year-olds Taureem O’Connor and Jalicia Crockwell were charged with the offence when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Mr Bean, Gavin O’Connor and Taureem O’Connor, all from Hamilton Parish, were further charged with having cannabis with intent to supply — as were Devonshire residents Ms Spenser and Mr Wade.

Ms Crockwell, from Pembroke, faced a separate charge of having the controlled drug in St George’s, also with intent to supply.

The offences allegedly occurred between an unknown date and April 7, 2022.

None of the accused were required to enter a plea, as the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos adjourned the case to the December arraignment sessions and released all six on bail of $20,000 each, with a surety, until that time.

Ms Sofianos also ordered that the defendants report to Hamilton Police Station twice a week and surrender all travel documents.
