Man convicted of touching girl

A man was found guilty yesterday of inappropriately touching a schoolgirl.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos found Andrew Rewan, 43, guilty of directly and indirectly touching the girl while in a position of trust between March 2013 and December 2017.

The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was under the age of 14 when Rewan first touched her.

The court heard during the trial, which began before magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo last year, that Rewan touched the girl’s breasts at his Sandys home, which she often visited to hang out with her friend after school, and on the Railway Trail.

Another witness recalled the girl being “called away” by Rewan at the residence.

Vaughan Caines, Rewan’s lawyer, told the court that he planned to appeal the guilty verdicts.

Ms Sofianos adjourned the case to October 21 and extended Rewan’s bail until that time.
