A woman who stole toiletries from Clarendon Pharmacy has been sentenced to 12 months of probation.

Barbara Ann Bean, 62, admitted stealing the merchandise when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.

She reappeared on Friday for sentencing before senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson.

The court heard that Bean, from Devonshire, paid for some merchandise at the pharmacy on December 29, but placed other items in her bag and left the premises without paying.

The stolen items, which included lotions, body wash and ankle tights, totalled $91.

Bean returned to the store with some of the stolen merchandise and paid for them.

Marc Daniels, Bean’s lawyer, said his client, whose previous convictions date back to 1983, was gainfully employed — and requested that she be given a conditional discharge for the offence.

Ms Anderson sentenced Bean to one year of probation and adjourned the case to January 15 for review.
