Man takes stand in court to deny touching schoolgirl
A man repeatedly denied inappropriately touching a schoolgirl during a Magistrates’ Court trial that continued yesterday.
The 62-year-old has denied three charges of sexually touching the girl, who is under the age of 14, between June 2022 and January 2023.
Neither the man, from Hamilton Parish, nor the alleged victim can be identified for legal reasons.
The trial began in March, when the girl told the court that the man touched her inappropriately “about four times” at a Hamilton Parish residence, while her father was either not in the room or looking away.
When the accused’s trial continued yesterday, the man said he had known the girl and her father since they both were babies and that he visited their home.
However, he said he always messaged the girl’s father before coming to the property. He repeatedly denied touching the girl inappropriately and called interactions with her “very run of the mill”.
Magistrate Craig Attridge adjourned the case to February 24 for judgment and extended the accused’s bail until that time.
