Court sees video evidence from 2017 fatal shooting
A jury saw footage of a foot chase and flashes of what appeared to be gunfire recorded on the evening a man was killed in Pembroke, as a murder trial continued.
Kiari Tucker, 27, has denied the 2017 murder of Marlon Steede, 35, and the use of a firearm to commit an indictable offence.
The Supreme Court previously heard that Mr Steede was chased through the One Way Deepdale area of Pembroke and fatally shot on the night of November 3, 2017.
On Thursday, the jury was shown CCTV footage of Mr Tucker, wearing a black hooded sweater with a white zipper, black trousers and grey shoes with white soles, on Court Street in the hours before the shooting.
The footage also showed Mr Tucker getting on the back of a bike and being taken to One Way Deepdale before returning to Court Street at about 8.11pm.
As the trial continued yesterday, the jury were shown additional footage from Court Street, with Mr Tucker appearing to speak to others before walking out of the frame near the Elliot Street car park.
Detective Constable Christopher Sabean, who collected and reviewed the footage, said he did not see Mr Tucker again on Court Street until more than an hour and a half later.
He said that shortly after 8.22pm, footage from another camera recorded a motorcycle with two men travelling from the direction of the Elliot Street car park down King Street and turning on to Curving Avenue.
Mr Sabean said he could not identify the colour of the clothing worn by the men because of the nature of the footage, but the passenger wore dark clothing with what appeared to be grey shoes with white soles.
He added that it did not appear the passenger was wearing a helmet, but had pulled the hood of their top over their head.
The jury were then shown CCTV footage from Deepdale recorded at 9.11pm that appeared to show an individual in dark clothing and a helmet walking through the area near the intersection of One Way Deepdale and Two Way Deepdale.
Mr Sabean said that at one point, as the person was walking towards the camera, he saw what appeared to be a “white line” in the centre of the clothing the person was wearing.
At about 9.40pm, about 25 minutes after the individual walked out of frame, Mr Sabean noted a bike going down One Way Deepdale towards Two Way Deepdale.
The vehicle was followed soon after by a man in a white shirt, who appeared to be chased by a person in black.
Shortly after the person in black entered the frame, a flash of light was seen coming from the end of his outstretched arm.
Mr Sabean said: “I observed a dark spot on the back of the white shirt. Almost in the middle left of the shirt from this angle.
“The man in the white shirt keeps running towards Parson’s road with the man in all black with dark footwear and what appears to be a helmet running behind him.”
The two men turned right on to Parson’s Road, towards the location of One Stop Variety, and disappeared from frame.
Mr Sabean said the man seen at 9.11pm appeared to be wearing clothing similar to that worn by the pursuer viewed at 9.40pm.
He told the court that at 9.53pm, Mr Tucker was seen walking from Angle Street on to Court Street wearing a white T-shirt and what appeared to be the same black trousers that he was wearing earlier in the evening.
Mr Sabean said: “He is walking quickly. He lifts his shirt up towards his face and wipes his face.”
He added that as Mr Tucker came closer to the camera, he noticed that Mr Tucker appeared to be “glistening” or “sweating”.
The trial continues.
