Two drivers over the limit are banned from roads
Two motorists who drove over the legal blood-alcohol limit were both disqualified from driving all vehicles.
Barak Bremar, 31, and Kevin Paiva, 58, admitted drink-driving when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that police saw Bremar, from St George’s, standing next to his bike near the Paget roundabout on May 4.
A breath test showed between 193 and 195 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of Bremar’s blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.
Separately, police stopped Paiva, from Hamilton Parish, after watching him fall off his bike in Devonshire on New Year’s Eve.
Paiva’s breath test at the Hamilton Police Station showed 211 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Bremar, who admitted having a problem with alcohol, participate in DUI Court beginning on Tuesday.
She released him on $2,000 bail and disqualified him from driving all vehicles until further notice.
Ms Anderson fined Paiva $1,500 and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for 18 months.
