Reprieve for man after text message threats

A man who threatened the life of a woman was given a suspended prison sentence last week.

Dario Parfitt, 34, pleaded guilty in the Supreme Court to threatening to murder in text messages and prowling around a Hamilton Parish home without a lawful excuse.

He was further charged with unlawfully breaking a window at the home — but the charge was allowed to stay on file after his other guilty pleas.

The incident happened on December 29, 2023.

During his sentencing hearing on Friday, Puisne Judge Alan Richards highlighted the heinous nature of the messages.

Mr Justice Richards added that Parfitt’s previous good standing, his family’s reliance on him and the unlikelihood of him carrying out his threats had kept him out of prison.

Parfitt was given a ten-month prison sentence suspended for two years.

He was ordered to take part in mandatory programmes provided by court services and to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
