Not guilty pleas for drug offences

Three people appeared to face charges for separate drug-related offences in Magistrates’ Court this week.

Faheem Swan, 26, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to attempting to smuggle drugs to a prisoner at the Westgate Correctional Facility.

He also denied possession of diamorphine, commonly known as heroin, in an increased penalty zone, and possession of Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol.

The offences were alleged to have happened on April 6 last year in Sandys.

The court heard that Mr Swan, from Sandys, was alleged to have had 0.84g of heroin and 4.46g of THC.

Magistrate Craig Attridge released him on $5,000 bail and adjourned his case until February 18.

Isaiah Cameron, 19, pleaded not guilty to possession of 25.33g of cannabis and 0.61g of cannabis resin.

He also denied possession of a bladed article, namely a kitchen knife with a cutting edge of 4.5 inches, on March 2 last year.

Mr Attridge released Mr Cameron, from Pembroke, on $2,500 bail and adjourned his case until February 18.

Maryka Edwards, 27, pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis resin and THC on May 20 last year, as well as possession of scissors for the misuse of drugs.

Amounts for the alleged drugs were not read out in court.

Mr Attridge adjourned the case until February 18 and released Ms Edwards, from Devonshire, on $1,500 bail.
