Women fined for separate driving offences
Two women were fined for separate driving offences in Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Winter DeMello, 32, admitted driving a car carelessly when she appeared in court.
Ms DeMello, from Warwick, was initially charged in August last year with causing Shawn Spencer grievous bodily harm by driving without due care and attention, which she denied, but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence this week.
DeMello and Mr Spencer were involved in a collision along Mangrove Bay Road on January 3, 2024.
Shirlae Taylor, 18, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and not stopping after a collision when she appeared in court.
The court heard that Taylor, also from Warwick, struck the back of a car on Middle Road in September, but rode away before the driver could get all her details.
The driver followed Taylor to Ord Road, but she left the area before police arrived.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy fined DeMello $1,000 and Taylor $1,300 for the offences.
