St. David's continue title onslaught

St David's bowler Delyone Borden appeals unsuccessfully for lbw against PHC's Kamau Leverock in yesterday's game at PHC Field.

St David’s, 180 for two, beat PHC, 179 all out by eight wickets (points: St David’s 14, PHC 0).The big yellow machine rolled through Warwick yesterday and continued its path of destruction through the Premier Division.St David’s crushing win spoiled PHC’s homecoming, but was no more than they deserved and the home side could have had little complaints if the margin of victory had been even greater. In chasing a very getable 180 to win only Ajuan Lambe (three) and Fiqre Crockwell (61) fell victim to PHC’s bowlers, and by the time Crockwell was out with the score on 149, the game was all but over.At the other end, opener Delyone Borden carried his bat for an unbeaten 63, and he and Crockwell put on 108 for the second wicket. Neither Borden nor Crockwell were unduly troubled by a hard-working, but limited, PHC attack, although PHC did miss several chances including dropping Borden towards the end.The home side didn’t help themselves however with their continued reluctance to fully utilise Kamau Leverock’s bowling. Despite Leverock being the match for most bowlers in the league, let alone at PHC, he didn’t feature until the 22 over, by which time St David’s were 107 for one.Leverock had already done his best to get his team, who lost the toss and were put in to bat, to a respectable total with an impressive 45.If he hadn’t been the victim of a questionable lbw decision there is every chance that he would have gone on to make a big score.PHC had barely made it out of first gear when Leverock came to the crease following Sheridan Ming’s stumping in the seventh over. From 14 for one, he and Jason Anderson (20) took their side to 54 for one before the PHC skipper became Del Hollis’ second victim of the day.By that time though Leverock was well into his stride, and was dispatching the St David’s attack to all parts, including hitting Hollis for a towering six over long-on.Unfortunately for a PHC team with little batting outside the top four, the loss of Leverock proved too much of an obstacle to overcome, and wickets fell regularly from then on. St David’s spinners did most of the damage, with Hollis, Borden and Sammy Robinson picking up two wickets apiece. There were also two run outs, including that of Cal Waldron (24) who did his best at the end of the innings to frustrate a visiting team who were smelling blood. In the end Charles Symons was the last man out, bowled by a slow full toss from OJ Pitcher with an over remaining. It would have taken something special to stop St David’s winning yesterday, but Borden is proving something of a revelation at the top of the order, while Crockwell is finally turning his form in practice into runs out in the middle.Kevin Tucker gave PHC a glimmer of hope when he bowled Ajuan Lamb with the score on 39, but that just brought Crockwell to the crease. With Anderson turning to the likes of Keishon Wilson, Elsworth Bean and Cal Waldron before Leverock, the St David’s pair comfortably guided their side towards their target.Things might have been different if Chris Foggo had been able to complete a smart stumping to remove Crockwell with the score on 90, but with the likes of OJ Pitcher and Lionel Cann to come, it is doubtful it would have made any difference. When Crockwell was out lbw to Wilson the visiting team were within sight of victory, and Landro Minors eventually got them across the finish line with 14 overs to spare.
