Brangman stars as Devonshire Rec roll on
Devonshire Rec, 122 for seven, beat Southampton Rangers, 118 for eight, by three wicketsDevonshire Rec. skipper Derrick Brangman and Kameron Fox led from the front in their team’s three wicket win over Southampton Rangers in a thrilling match at Devonshire Rec yesterday.Brangman spearheaded the win, claiming three wickets for 17 runs and was unbeaten on 26 when the target was crossed, while Fox stroked 42 and claimed two wickets.“It was a good game, both sides came out looking to get the win but I have to tip my hat to my side who were understrength and performed well,” said Brangman. “We played hard for the most part and were deserved of the victory.”Batting first, Rangers lost wickets early and often and were 23 for three when Janeiro Tucker (35) and Gerald Simons (26) put on 77 runs for the fourth wicket before the former was out with the score on 100.Brangman snatched three wickets for 17 runs, while Fox chipped in with two for 21. Herbie Bascome and Shaquille Trott each contributed with one wicket each.In reply, the visitors had the hosts in a world of trouble, sruggling at 28 for five before Fox and Brangman put on 76 for the sixth wicket. In the end it was all that was needed, with Lamont Brangman (five not out) scoring the winning runs with one ball to spare. Ricardo Brangman jr. scored 13, while Ian Armstrong chipped in with 11 to help the side to the win.For Rangers, Tucker claimed four wickets and was helped by Ryan Belboda. While the win has put Rec in the driver’s seat to advance to the next round, Brangman was upset with the absence of umpires at the match.“It was a shame we didn’t have any umpires considering this was the only game today so that was the only downside to an exciting game.“Going to the crease I knew what had to be done, and along with Kameron we ended up getting ourselves in a good position to get the win, but I can’t take the whole credit even though I bowled well.“I bowled well and got a not out so in the end it was a good day all around.”
