Spinner Trott may decide to sit out rest of season
Rodney Trott has yet to decide who to sign with for the rest of the season, and may not join anyone at all.The Social Club skipper has until Friday to register with a new team for the remainder of the year, and is believed to be in the middle of a tug-of-war for his services between his Cup Match side, St George’s, and his former club, Bailey’s Bay.St George’s coach Clay Smith has already gone on record as saying he views Trott as the ‘final piece of the puzzle’, while Bay are Trott’s home-town club.Trott though has indicated that he might take a break from cricket altogether, playing only Cup Match, and Eastern County for Bay, if selected.“Things happen for a reason, I’ve played a lot of cricket over the past 12 months, and it might be a good time to take a break,” he said.“To be honest I’m not sure if I even want to play cricket at the moment. I don’t know what I’m going to do, we’ll see what happens.”Trott hasn’t been inactive since Social Club withdrew from the Premier Division. The Bermuda spinner has been training with the national team ahead of the ICC Americas Division One tournament this month, with St George’s ahead of Cup Match, and even had a little run out with Bay last week. He’s in good nick too, scoring an unbeaten 103 in St George’s first Cup Match trial, and his appearance there set tongues wagging that he would join Smith’s side. However, Trott was seen training at Bay last week which set the rumour-mill going in a new direction.“I haven’t been training with Bay,” said Trott. “I went down (to practice) on Thursday for a little run around, but nothing serious. I’m not sure what I want to do, I’m not going to fully commit to....until I’m sure what I want to do.“I have to decide by Friday, but I’d like to have an idea by Wednesday of what I want to do. I’m not feeling burnt out, I’m not injured, I can play, I’m just not sure I want to.”
