Rangers raring to go . . .

Southampton Rangers skipper Dion Stovell says his side will be firing on all cylinders when they open their campaigns in both the Lindo’s T20 and the Logic Premier Division this weekend.Rangers begin defence of their T20 title with a clash against Somerset Cricket Club at Southampton Oval in the first match of a double-header today, before travelling to Sea Breeze Oval tomorrow to take on last year’s league runners-up Bailey’s Bay in the 50-over game. While admitting that repeating as T20 champions is one of the club’s goals this year, their main objective will be winning the league.“The team is looking good right now, working hard in training and getting ready for the opening weekend as are all the other teams,” said Stovell.“Last year we didn’t have the best of seasons, especially in the beginning when results weren’t going our way and we had to pull off wins at the end to stay up. This year we are looking to make a run at all titles . . . that is the goal.“We know what needs to be done. Last year was difficult in terms of the points system and umpiring that affected games . . . there were times when games were being stopped. But this year we are focused.“We start defence of out T20 today, but the overall goal is the league.“If you can stay focused over the course of a season, you always give yourself a chance to be in the hunt come season’s end and that’s where we want to be.”Most clubs will be featured in both competitions on the opening weekend which sees a full slate of cricket today and tomorrow.Cleveland play Warwick following the finish of today’s Rangers game.At Sea Breeze Oval, Leg Trappers clash with Western Stars while Somerset Bridge play Bailey’s Bay in the second match.St David’s welcome Devonshire Rec to Lords, with Young Men’s Social Club playing Flatts in the second match.Completing the opening day schedule are two games at PHC.
