Steede appointed BCB second vice-president
Former Police all-rounder Nyon Steede has been appointed as Bermuda Cricket Board’s (BCB) second vice-president.The younger brother of ex-national team skipper Albert Steede was named to the post by the BCB’s executive on April 30.Board executives were granted permission to make the appointment by BCB affiliates at an April 2 meeting after no nominees presented themselves from the floor.Prior to the appointment, which was only announced by the BCB yesterday after enquiries by The Royal Gazette, the position had remained vacant since last November’s AGM.The position became vacant when former second vice-president Lloyd Fray was elected as BCB president.Commenting on his appointment, Steede said: “I am excited to be given the opportunity to contribute to the cricket community at a national level.“I have had a lifelong passion for the game and the greatest respect for my fellow colleagues on the Executive. I will work diligently and responsibly to assist the BCB in the execution of its strategic plan.”Welcoming Steede into the fold, Fray said: “I am very happy to be able to announce that Nyon has joined the BCB Executive team. Nyon has a strong cricket background with a number of clubs and brings extensive business and HR experience to the Executive.“I look forward to his professional and considerable contribution that I know he will bring to our sport.”Meanwhile, domestic cricket resumes today with T20 action.Reigning T20 champions Southampton Rangers travel to Somerset Cricket Club to play Cleveland County with hosts Somerset taking on Warwick in the second match of a double-header.Leg Trappers will face Somerset Bridge at St John’s Field which will also host the match between Western Stars and Bailey’s Bay.At Devonshire Rec, Devonshire take on Young Men’s Social Club with St David’s meeting Flatts in the second match.Elsewhere at PHC Field, the home team play St George’s while Willow Cuts tackle an Evening Cricket League XI.Tomorrow will see the 50-over campaign resume.The match of the day in the Premier Division will see Willow Cuts take on St David’s at Somerset Cricket Club with Bailey’s Bay facing Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval and Southampton Rangers taking on Devonshire at Southampton Oval.First Division action will see Flatts and St George’s doing battle at Lords, Young Men’s Social Club against Western Stars at Police Field and Warwick locking horns with PHC at St John’s Field.n Bermuda’s Under-18 squad will begin training at Bermuda High School on Monday as they start their preparation for the ICC Americas Under-18 Championships which will be played from July 8-15 Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Training sessions under national coach David Moore will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays leading up to the tournament.Many of the players attended at an Under-18 camp in the first week of April, although missing from the upcoming training sessions will be Onias Bascome, Okera Bascome, Christian Burgess, Joshua Gilbert, Kamau Leverock and William White who are all studying overseas.Others in the squad are Alex Dore, Kamel Easton, Christion Gibbons-Wade, Kwasi James, Shaquille Jones, Tre Manders, Delray Rawlins, Jordan Smith, Lateef Trott, Cameron Gordon, Joshua Commisiong, Antonio Darrell, Demiko James, Jahnoi Bean
