West claim All-Star honours
The West All-Stars handed their Eastern counterparts a decisive defeat on Saturday at the National Sports Centre (NSC) in the annual Hiscox 11 and Under All-Star match.Batting first, the East relied on Justin Robinson (20) and Zahn Robinson (16) to get to their total of 88 for five in their allotted 20 overs.Jaiden Manders, Rebecca Gibbons and Josi Butterfield all grabbed a wicket to help the West to restrict their rivals.In reply, the West reached their target with minimal fuss thanks to Butterfield (14), Manders (16) and Dominic Sabir (17) as the side ended with 89 for six in 17.4 oversIyuan Smith grabbed two wickets in the loss, while Jaden Talbot, Jaire Lawrence and Ryonde Swan all chipped in with one wicket apiece.Manders grabbed Man-of-the-Match honours, while Jabari Darrell won play of the game honours.In the featured match of the day, the Under-11 Select beat the Celebrities by 45 runs to dethrone the champions.The Celebrities won last year’s match by 32 runs but made several changes to the line-up as newly appointed Governor George Ferguson made his first appearance, joining MPs Glenn Blakeney, Michael Scott, Marc Bean, Senator Kim Wilson, Michael Weeks, Patrice Minors and Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier.Also included were Marathon Derby champions Chris and Ashley Estwanik and father and son Jay and Justin Donawa, along with comedian Nadanja Bailey, Mayor of Hamilton Graham Outerbridge and Dwayne Leverock, Michael Jackman and Lionel Cann as well as radio hosts Power Girl (Patrina O’Connor) and Nikita Robinson.The Celebrities were always up against it as their rivals batted first and put up more than enough runs to win the match, ending on 111 in their allotted overs.The total was too much for the illustrious camp, as they ended their innings on 66 with only skipper Patrice Minors keeping the scoreboard ticking over.Under-11 player of the game was Simeon Burrows while the play of game went to Jaquari PaynterMeanwhile, Willow Cuts, Warwick, and Bailey’s Bay were all crowned Under-11 champions of their respective leagues.Cuts claimed the West league while Warwick won the Central and Bay won the East.
