Stovell and Dore unable to save Rangers

St. David’s 312, beat Southampton 293, by 19 runsCaptain Dion Stovell scored 88 and 15-year-old Alex Dore 93 but home side Southampton Rangers still came up short against St. David’s as the generous 45 extras they conceded came back to haunt them.Rangers were set a daunting target after St. David’s passed 200 in the league for only the second time this season, an achievement helped by 45 extras, including 34 wides, as 12 runs were also added to their total when Rangers were penalised for a slow overs rate.St. David’s were struggling at 129 for six at one stage before a late fightback saw them pass the 300 mark. Del Hollis, batting at number nine, led the tailend resistance with 73 from nine fours and three sixes as he and Ricky Foggo (14 not out) added 79 for the ninth wicket. Also contributing with the bat was opener Delyone Borden who smashed 70 with six fours and three sixes as early wickets fell around him. Shannon Raynor, batting at number eight, scored 45 while Rudell Pitcher added to the late resistance with 20.Kwame Tucker and Dion Stovell claimed three wickets each for 37 and 42 respectively while opener Dore took two for 42 and Quinton Sherlock two for 62, both from ten overs.Dore, a member of the Bermuda youth team that played recently in Florida, also showed himself to be handy with the bat, coming in at number three after the early loss of Curtis Jackson and adding 165 for the second wicket with Stovell in taking the score from 30 to 195 between the fourth and 35th overs. The required run rate climbed after Stovell’s departure but the left-handed Dore carried on and got within seven runs of his first century in senior cricket before he ran himself out in the 42nd over when he set off from the bowler’s end for a risky single and was beaten by Rudell Pitcher’s direct hit after Rohaan Simons sent him back. That would prove to be the last of Rangers’ hope of victory as the tail-enders offered little support to Simons who finished 57 not out from nine boundaries. Former St. David’s player Chris Pitcher and Quinton Sherlock were both run out in the same over as St. David’s closed in on victory. Justin Pitcher claimed four for 58 and Del Hollis two for 54.* Terryn Fray hammered 128 and Ryan Steede scored 62 as Bailey’s Bay posted 401 on their way to a 313-run victory over Devonshire Rec who were dismissed for 88.Dennico Hollis claimed four wickets and teenager Jermae Bean, who opened the bowling, claimed three wickets.Complete scores could not be confirmed as there was some discrepency with the totals of the lone scorer.
