Seamer Kelly back for Cup Match
England-based Stefan Kelly will be back to reclaim his place in the St. George’s Cup Match team.Doubts had surrounded Kelly’s availability for this year’s Cup Match but a family member confirmed yesterday that the seam bowler is scheduled to return home on Friday, a day ahead of the final trial.Kelly has been included in the President’s team for Saturday’s trial match as a host of players bid for places. The champions will make at least three changes with captain Oronde Bascome ruled out after recent surgery in England while batsman OJ Pitcher and last year’s colt Damali Bell are both also overseas in school and unavailable. That leaves two batting and one bowling spot up for grabs in St. George’s where there appears to be a riches of bowlers and wicketkeepers.Last year Kelly was the pick of the bowlers, taking match figures of 10 for 99 (4-26 and 6-73), further confirming his value to the team. The selectors will have a headache deciding on the rest of the seam attack with Justin Pitcher already in the team and starting to hit form while the likes of Lateef Trott, David Bedard, Kyle Hodsoll, Rudell Pitcher, George O’Brien and Zeko Burgess are hoping to impress the selectors on Saturday.Jason Anderson was last year’s wicketkeeper and was the team’s top scorer in the first innings with 52 as he opened the batting with Bascome in the first innings and Fiqre Crockwell in the second. But there are three others capable of filling in as wicketkeeper, including Chris Foggo, who did not play last year, and youngsters Christian Burgess and Sinclair Smith. In the batting department, those seeking a call-up include dashing left-hander Treadwell Gibbons Jr who scored 87 not out in the first trial match, Onias Bascome, who is returning fromEngland where he is in the Warwickshire youth programme, and Mischael Paynter who is seeking a recall after making his debut two years ago in Somerset. Another player seeking a recall is veteran batsman Glenn Blakeney who has been playing for St. George’s in the league this season.Saturday’s teams::Presidents Select: Lionel Cann, Jason Anderson, Stefan Kelly, Justin Pitcher, David Bedard, Rudell Pitcher, Fiqre Crockwell, Delyone Borden, Mishael Paynter, Christian Burgess, Loren Marshall, Delray Rawlins, Patrick Stamp.Vice President’s Select: Rodney Trott, Chris Foggo, Sinclair Smith, George O’Brien, Kyle Hodsoll, Lateef Trott, Treadwell Gibbons, Glenn Blakeney, Allan Douglas, Onias Bascome, Ankoma Cannonier, Zeko Burgess, Ryan Steede, Gregg Foggo.
