Bay advance to meet St. David’s in T/20 final
Bailey’s Bay, 81 for 2, beat Southampton Rangers 76 for 9 by eight wicketsBailey’s Bay thrashed Southampton Rangers by eight wickets to reach Bermuda Cricket Board’s Twenty20 final at Somerset Cricket Club last night.Guiding Bay to victory was all rounder Lateef Trott who bagged figures of two for seven with the ball and then thumped a whirlwind 34 from just 14 deliveries with the bat to carry his team across the line with more than 11 overs to spare.Bay lost opening pair Irving Romaine (17) and skipper Stephen Outerbridge (21) who both fell to the left arm spin of Dwayne Leverock in the space of three overs. But any thoughts Rangers might have had of defending their low total were cruelly dashed as cousins Trott and Rodney Trott (6) produced an unbeaten 31-run partnership that put Rangers out of their misery.Trott’s robust innings contained three sixes and two fours.Leverock was Rangers best bowler with two for 31.Earlier, Rangers’ decision to bat first backfired as their batsmen repeatedly threw their wickets away on a good pitch.Seamer Kyle Hodsoll made the initial breakthrough in the third over when he trapped Curtis Jackson leg before hitting across the line and from then on wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.David Bedard (three for 16), Burton Outerbridge (two for 13) and Trott were the pick of Bay’s bowlers who bowled a nagging line outside off stump throughout the innings.Number nine bat Leverock, who added 19 runs for the eighth wicket with Olin Jones to delay the inevitable, topped Rangers batting with a dogged 14 that included one boundary — an exquisite cover drive off Bedard that raced to the fence.Opener Jackson added 11 at the top of the order while next high man for a Rangers side missing skipper Dion Stovell and player/coach Janeiro Tucker was the 17 extras Bay leaked in the field.Bay will now face Eastern Counties rivals St David’s in the Twenty20 final.
