Tucker named in final trial
Janeiro Tucker is back but his Southampton Rangers captain Dion Stovell has stuck by his decision not to play Cup match this year as challengers Somerset are forced into making five changes to last year’s team.Tucker, who recently announced his retirement from cricket, is back in contention after a change of heart, good news no doubt for the west enders who will make several changes to the team that lost in St. George’s last year. The teams announced by the club for Saturday’s final trial match does not include Stovell, who expressed his desire not to be considered not to be considered this year following a disappointment match last year. However, the indication was he was reconsidering that position recently, though a club member did confirm that the Rangers opening had not shown up for training.Also missing from the final trial are Deunte Darrell (suspended), Kamau leverock (abroad), Kevin Hurdle (suspended) and Joshua Gilbert (abroad), leaving a number of players battling for places. Jekon Edness will captain the President’s XI while Malachi Jones will lead the Vice President’s team, the only player from last year not included in the President’s team.Chris Douglas of Willow Cuts, who was dropped last year, will open the President’s batting with Terryn Fray while Sammy Robinson and Jordan DeSilva will also play for the President’s along with youngsters Justin Donawa, Greg Maybury and Marcus Johnson.Up and coming youngsters also make up the Vice President’s team where Shaquille Jones and Tre Manders, both members of the recent Under-18 team that toured Florida, will open the batting. St. George’s are likely to include Onias Bascome, Christian Burgess and Zeko Burgess, three members of the Bermuda team to Florida.
