Bay recall Govia and Outerbridge

Champions Bailey’s Bay have replaced two batsmen with a batsman and a bowler for tomorrow’s second round Eastern Counties clash with St. David’s. However, captain Stephen Outerbridge insists the team is more balanced than the one that played Flatts a month ago.Bay expect St. David’s to be their toughest opponents in the series as the top two teams square off at Sea Breeze Oval. Bay will miss experienced batsman Glenn Blakeney who suffered a knee injury in Cup Match and has not recovered while 15-year-old Azende Furbert, a colt against Flatts in the first round, is dropped to allow Tre Govia to be recalled along with bowler Burton Outerbridge.“In the last game we took nine batsmen and were short of a bowler because it was a risk we wanted to take,” explained Outerbridge. “But I think our batting has come along in the last few weeks so we are bringing in another bowler and hopefully the batsmen can get off and post a big total.”Outerbridge doesn’t want it to be interpreted that Bay are taking St. David’s lightly after beating them on four previous occasions this season, including twice last weekend to lift the T20 title and then to cement their hold on first place in the Lindo’s 50-over league.“This is like a winner-takes-all because if you lose this one then those four games become irrelevant,” said the Bay captain who is the highest scoring batsman in the 50-overs league.Outerbridge is well aware of the fierce rivalry between the teams and expects St. David’s to rise to the occasion. The teams last met in the counties in 2009 before St. David’s boycotted the competition in 2010 and 2011, and now Outerbridge wants to show that Bay deserve to be champions with St. David’s back in the competition.“We want to win because we want to show that we are the best team in the Eastern Counties,” said Outerbridge.“Everybody wants to have those bragging rights. This is a derby match and we’ve been looking forward to it for the last three years. In my humble opinion we have been the better team in the last three years, maybe that’s the reason they didn’t want to play.”Tre Govia’s career has been hit for injuries over the last few years since making his Cup Match debut in 2008 as a 15-year-old spin bowler. Shoulder problems have prevented him from bowling so the youngster has been concentrating on his batting and will be carried as a batsman.“We play him more as a batsman, he scored a lot of runs in junior cricket and then he got injured so he’s been out for about two years,” said Outerbridge.“He’s looked good in the nets and hopefully he can transfer that form into the game. He’s a really good player. If it’s not his shoulder, it’s his knee, he’s had a bad two or three years. That’s what happens when you get a major injury.”Another Tre has also had his bowling hampered by a shoulder injury. Like Govia, Tre Manders was developing into a promising spin before the shoulder injury and now he is known more for his batting, though he did bowl a couple of overs for PHC in the Western Counties last weekend against Willow Cuts. Manders is again included in the Bay team as a guest player for tomorrow’s match.Bailey’s Bay team: Stephen Outerbridge, RodneyTrott, Terryn Fray, Cal Dill, Sinclair Smith, Tre Manders, Kyle Hodsoll, Lateef Trott, Tre Govia, Dennico Hollis, Burton Outerbridge.
