Cuts and Bay return to winning ways
Flatts 116 all outWillow Cuts 120-1League title contenders Willow Cuts thrashed Flatts by nine wickets in a lopsided affair at Lords.The visitors dismissed their hosts for a paltry total in 31.3 overs and then knocked off the winning runs with 191 balls to spare.Spinners Kevon Fubler and David (Chick) Adams claimed six wickets between them to restrict Flatts to 116 runs after the latter elected to bat.Leg spinner Fubler led the way with figures of 3-18 off 5.3 overs that included a maiden. Veteran wrist spinner Adams seized 3-25 off five overs to hold his end of the bargain.Flatts found themselves in early trouble at 78 for four and never recovered before they eventually folded.Chris Daley topped the Flatts batting with 29 while wicketkeeper Coefield Robinson added 24.Cuts raced to victory with minimum fuss with assistant coach and opening bat Dexter Basden leading by example with a unbeaten 76. Basden and Chris Foggo (35) added 109 runs for the first wicket to send Cuts well on their way to victory.Once Foggo departed Basden and Ricardo Brangman (three not out) added 11 runs for the second wicket to carry the West Enders across the line.Paul Carr (1-21) accounted for the sole Cuts wicket to fall.Bailey’s Bay 327-7Warwick 155 all outBailey’s Bay got back to winning ways after handing Warwick an emphatic 172 run loss at Sea Breeze Oval.Guiding the hosts to victory were deputising skipper Rodney Trott (77), Ryan Steede (93 not out) and Kyle Hodsoll (53) who all stroked breezy half centuries while off spinner Cal Dill led the bowling with 3-19 off six overs that included two maidens.Lateef Trott (2-31) and Jomae Lindo-Bean (2-34) claimed two wickets each.Bay found themselves in a spot of bother at 41 for four after electing to bat before their middle order came to the rescue.Trott and Macquille Walker (29) began Bay’s revival by adding 71 runs for the fifth wicket. Trott added a further 81 runs with Steede for the sixth wicket to keep the hosts firmly in the driver’s seat.Once Trott departed Steede and Hodsoll, better known for their bowling, added 105 runs for the seventh wicket to put the match far beyond Warwick’s reach.Trott’s innings contained eight fours, Steede’s three sixes and eight fours while Hodsoll slammed three sixes and seven fours as the visitors’ bowlers were put to the sword.De-Shaun Benjamin (3-41) and Kani Darrell (2-45) were the pick of Warwick’s bowlers.The visitors were costly in the field, giving up 40 extras that included 32 wides.In reply Warwick were forced on the back foot early in their innings before player/coach Lionel Cann blasted a game high 97 (eight fours and seven sixes) to delay the inevitable before his team was eventually dismissed at the end of the 40th over.
