Rangers reclaim Western Counties from Willow Cuts

Southampton Rangers 302 for fiveWillow Cuts 154 all outDion Stovell scored an unbeaten century to help Southampton Rangers reclaim the Western Counties title from defending champions Willow Cuts at White Hill Field on Saturday.Stovell’s knock of 151 was the catalyst for an unbeaten 144 sixth-wicket stand with Kwame Tucker (51 not out) as they took a Cuts bowling attack, without Malachi Jones, to task.Willow Cuts won the toss and sent the challengers into bat, and the decision seemed to pay dividends early on when Kamal Bashir bowled Gerald Simons for one with the score on five.Curtis Jackson (17) and Alex Dore (14) both made brief cameos, but it would be the introduction of Stovell that would ultimately turn the tide with the score 32 for two.Stovell stroked 18 fours and five sixes that saw the Bermuda opener smash the ball to all parts of the ground in his 139 balls.Janeiro Tucker (16) and Derrick Brangman (9) chipped in with useful runs, until the combination of Stovell and Kwame Tucker further punished the Cuts bowling attack.Tucker hit three fours and four sixes in his innings of 42 deliveries.Cuts conceded a staggering 44 extras, including 26 wides.Deunte Darrell was the pick of the Cuts bowlers with two wickets for 73 runs.Cuts lost wickets early and often with Chris Douglas trapped lbw by Janeiro Tucker for one and fellow opener Dwight Basden for three to leave their side in a precarious 12 for two.The early loss of wickets was too much for Sheroy Fubler (43) to overcome, as he and Darrell (28) put on 52 for the fourth wicket after Ricardo Brangman Jr (12) was also trapped lbw by Tucker.Dwayne Leverock, in his first game for Rangers this season, was the chief destroyer of the Cuts batting line-up, as he claimed Darrell, Bergon Spencer, Omar Amory and Bashir.Tucker was also in form with the ball, helping himself to three wickets for 21 runs.
