St. George’s pair win awards
St. George’s team-mates Oronde Bascome and Macai Simmons made it a clean sweep of the Logic Player of the Week awards following outstanding performances last weekend in the team’s 179-run win over Somerset Bridge.Captain Bascome was voted the Player of the Week after scoring his first century of the season (104) as St. George’s posted 299-8 off their 50 overs.Simmons took the Logic Emerging Player of the Week award after supporting his captain with a knock of 84. He then took two for 18 as Somerset Bridge were dismissed for 120.The league season entered the halfway stage last weekend with Willow Cuts replacing Southampton Rangers at the top of the Premier Division standings on 88 points following Southampton Rangers’ loss to St. David’s. The Islanders, just two points behind Cuts in second place, are the only team in the league with a perfect record from their six games while Cuts have six wins and a rain-out from seven matches and Rangers (third on 77 points), five wins from seven.Rangers captain Dion Stovell, whose 151 against Willow Cuts in the Western Counties was not eligible for consideration as the awards are for league matches only, is the leading run scorer in the league with 289 runs while Lionel Cann of Warwick is second with 267 runs and Rodney Trott third on 256.
