Bremar knock key for Devonshire
Devonshire chalked up their third win of the season after handing ten-man PHC a 48-run defeat at Devonshire Recreation Club yesterday.
Guiding the home side to victory were early-order batsmen Steven Bremar Jr and Paul Carr-Harvey, who scored the bulk of their team’s runs, and Shaun DeGraff, who sliced through PHC’s top and lower order with some penetrative seam bowling.
Devonshire opted to bat after winning the toss and at one stage were comfortably poised at 85 for two after openers Bremar and Dapo Fredrick had set a good platform. But a middle-order collapse gave PHC a foothold in the match and they eventually dismissed their home side in the 40th over for 178.
Bremar cracked three sixes and four fours in a game-high knock of 42 from 38 balls while Carr-Harvey’s 30 included four fours.
Charles Trott was the pick of the PHC bowling with three for 34 and he received good support from second-change Danté Wellman and Corey Burgess, who took two for 44 and two for five respectively.
PHC got their run-chase off to a reasonably good start and, at 109 for five, appeared on course for victory despite their numerical disadvantage.
However, Devonshire were not to be denied, as DeGraff picked up two additional wickets in his second spell before PHC folded for 130 in the 36th over.
DeGraff took four for 27 and was ably supported by opening bowler Carr-Harvey, who took two for 27, and first-change bowler Durnell Smith, who seized two for 23.
Dean Richards led the PHC batting with 27, while opener Ellsworth Bean chipped in with 24.
