Rec’s season ends with a whimper
Reggie Baker and Derek Wright put together a match-winning partnership to help Flatts secure second place of group A at Lord’s yesterday.
Flatts easily chased down ten-man Devonshire Rec’s 113, with nearly four overs to spare, thanks largely to Baker’s fluent 44 and a determined 21 from Wright.
Victory set Flatts up for a group decider against St David’s later in the day.
Kijuan Franks was the key Flatts bowler, taking three wickets for 16, including Oladapo Frederick, the Devonshire captain, who top-scored for his side with 40.
Frederick anchored the innings and combined well with Steven Bremar to add 48 for the third wicket.
A hefty score always appeared beyond Rec, though, with Lamar Caines the only other batsman to scrape into double figures. Frederick was bowled at the end of the eighteenth over and ironically that was followed by a late flurry of runs, chiefly from extras, to give Devonshire a glimmer of hope.
However, Baker, who opened the batting with Franks, was always in control of the Flatts chase.
He paced his innings patiently while Franks, Wright, Logan Phillips and Cofield Robinson, the captain, weighed in with useful contributions. Late on, Baker began to hit out, finishing with three sixes and two fours to carry Flatts comfortably over the line.
