Bailey’s Bay made light work of Eastern Counties rivals Flatts at Lord’s yesterday.

Malachi Jones, who joined Bay from Willow Cuts during the last transfer period, shone with the bat and ball to inspire his new club to an emphatic 185 run victory.

Jones thumped five fours in an aggressive knock of 33 from 32 balls in 41 minutes batting at number six and then ripped the heart out of Flatts by claiming five for 14 from five overs that included two maidens.

Bay got useful contributions throughout their order after being sent in by their hosts with Rodney Trott top scoring with 50 from 59 balls. The St George’s Cup Match stalwart struck nine fours during his 85 minute stay at the crease.

Next high man for Bay was Dennico Hollis, who returned to the club after a brief spell at Somerset Cricket Club, who belted a whirlwind 42 from 43 balls that contained six fours.

Stephen Outerbridge, the Bay captain, scored 28 from 41 while Coolridge Durham and David Lovell chipped in with 22 apiece.

Rodney Trott and Durham featured in their team’s biggest partnership, adding 61 runs for the fourth wicket before Trott was caught off the bowling of Paul Carr.

Kiwan Franks and Christoff led the Flatts attack with three wickets each while Carr claimed two.

In reply, Flatts found themselves in early trouble and never recovered as wickets tumbled at regular intervals before the hosts were dismissed in less than 23 overs.

Regino Smith, the Flatts wicketkeeper, led the resistance with an aggressive 26 from 25 balls that included three fours and a six.

Aiding Somerset Cup Match all rounder Jones in the dismantling of the Flatts’ batting order were seamers Kyle Hodsoll and Zeiko Burgess who claimed two wickets each.
