Bermuda finish with a whimper

Brian Hall returned to claim two wickets for Bermuda

Wright Cricket Field (Denmark won toss): Denmark beat Bermuda by 44 runs

Bermuda ended the World Cricket League Division Four tournament in Los Angeles on a losing note on Saturday losing to Denmark by 44 runs in the third-place play-off.

The game had no bearing on promotion or relegation, with Bermuda avoiding the drop after finishing ahead of Jersey on net run-rate after the five round-robin matches.

However, Denmark avenged their earlier loss to Bermuda, a defeat that cost them one of the promotion spots, which went to the United States and Oman.

Denmark opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 269 for eight in their 50 overs. They then restricted Bermuda to 225 for eight.

Taranjit Bharaj led the Denmark batting with 68 not out, facing 88 balls and hitting a four and two sixes, while Anders Bulow scored 45 from 49 balls with four fours and two sixes. Opener Aftab Ahmed contributed 32 from 30 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Jordan Smith and Brian Hall, who both returned to the Bermuda team for the first time since the opening losses to the US and Oman, led the bowling with two wickets apiece. Smith, the spinner, claimed two for 53 off nine overs while seam bowler Hall had two for 38.

Cejay Outerbridge, Dion Stovell and Delray Rawlins, who shared the new ball with Outerbridge, all took one wicket.

Rawlins also opened the batting with Kamau Leverock, the left-handers both scoring 24 as they put on 39 in 9.4 overs to start Bermuda’s run chase.

Two wickets went down on 50 as Rawlins departed in the twelfth over and Stovell two balls later, before Tre Manders was trapped lbw for ten in the 22nd over to make it 87 for four.

Wicketkeeper Steven Bremar and Janeiro Tucker tried to repair the early damage before Jordan DeSilva, batting at No 8, helped Bermuda pass the 200 mark with his 52 not out from 44 balls, hitting three fours and two sixes.

Amjad Khan was the top bowler for Denmark with three for 14 from while Aftab Ahmed had two for 32.

• The US, who finished second to Oman after the round-robin games, were the tournament winners after winning the play-off final by 13 runs. The US scored 208 in 49.4 overs and then restricted Oman to 195 for nine in their 50 overs.

In the fifth place play-off match Jersey scored 250 for six against Italy and then dismissed them for 208 to win by 42 runs. Both Jersey and Italy were relegated to Division Five.
