St David’s and Bay juniors show promise
Bermuda Under-19 players Dalin Richardson, Jaiden Manders, Dean Simons and Nirobi Mills helped St David’s and Bailey’s Bay win their opening-round robin matches in the Junior Eastern Counties matches at the weekend.
All four players headed to Toronto on Monday for the Under-19 World Cup Qualifiers.
Richardson, the Bermuda Under-19 captain, was outstanding as St David’s beat Cleveland County by eight wickets at Lord’s. He claimed three wickets for 16 runs as Cleveland were dismissed for 151.
Top scorer for Cleveland was Naijayi Raynor with 41 while Tybre Robinson scored 29. Zeri Thomlinson, just ten years old, chipped in with 22 and Kijaun Simons 20.
Richardson then scored 63 and Simons 48 not out as St David’s passed their target with the loss of just two wickets. Oni Smith made 20 not out. Raynor took two for 25.
Bailey’s Bay made short work of Flatts in the other match at Sea Breeze Oval, dismissing Flatts for just 29 runs in 15.3 overs before winning by nine wickets after reaching their target in just five overs.
Mills claimed four wickets for ten runs while Kazhi Sealey took two wickets for three. Jahziko White took two wickets for one run from just three deliveries. Manders scored 21 not out in Bay’s reply.
The next matches in the round-robin competition were scheduled for Saturday but have been postponed until July 29 because of the Hiscox Celebrity Festival this weekend.
In the next round Bay meet Cleveland and St David’s host Flatts.
